Style Mannerism.

An article from the Book "Interior Styles with Tatyana Antonchenko" is a large encyclopedia of interior and architectural styles.

The end of the 16th century lasted about 25 years.

Mannerism is positioned as a transitional style from classical massive, monumental forms in the interior decoration of the Renaissance (Renaissance) to a new style that promotes pomp and grandeur, luxury and pathos - the Baroque style.

Mannerism (Italian Manierismo - pretentiousness, mannerism from maniera - technique, method) is a name that conditionally denotes stylistic trends, as well as a certain stage in the development of European, mainly Italian, art of the middle and end of the XNUMXth century. The name "mannerism" (from the word "manner") was given to the style by contemporaries who perceived it as mannerism - an appeal to the recent past, a repetition of its best achievements.

This stage reflected the crisis of artistic ideals of the Italian Renaissance. Dominance of form over content. The beauty of a single detail is more important than the beauty of the whole. Characteristic: the elongation of the figures, the tension of the poses (contrapost), bizarre effects associated with size, lighting or perspective. Repetition of the best achievements of the recent past.

The main elements of the Mannerist style:

1. Painting of walls and ceilings, decoration with frescoes (paintings, ornaments, pseudo-stucco, pseudo-bas-reliefs, pseudo-statues, false doors and windows);

2. overloaded with details, lack of stylistic unity;

3. pretentious beauty and expressiveness of details;

4. ill-conceived building layouts, lack of certain principles for organizing the form;

5. more lively and original use of color and form than in the Renaissance, the colors are bright;

6.Rich, golden, silver inlays;

7. in picturesque, sculptural compositions, unusual fragmentary and lighting effects, perspective is used, images of people with elongated proportions.

Mannerism turned out to be a temporary, transitional phenomenon, destroying the classics of the Italian Renaissance and not creating its own artistic style, a current without a past and a future.

But, maybe you will be able to capture elements of style or embody the whole interior - Mannerism? Thus, give new life to this fleeting style.

Look! Maneuver! Create!
