Meteora (meteoros in Greek means “floating in the air”) are massive rocks, on the tops of which one of the main shrines of Greece, the monasteries of Meteora, is located. Impenetrable, cut off from the world, the tops of the rocks have become a haven for hermits since the 11th century. In the 14th century, the first monastic communities arose here, six of which are still active today.
An amazing miracle of nature - giant stalagmite rocks that shot up into the sky, appeared as a gift to monks seeking to get closer to God.
